Grand Parade

Children help bring their town’s history to life

After Emperor Maximilian I arrives in the city—greeted by bells ringing and enthusiastic cheers from his “subjects”—he receives homage from local officials and council members, marking the start of the Grand Parade.

This parade leads spectators on an engaging journey through Kaufbeuren's historical eras, spanning from the Carolingian age to the Biedermeier period. Nearly 1,850 children dressed in authentic historic attire, 36 themed floats, and more than 170 horses together paint a vibrant scene illustrating the town’s diverse heritage.

All characters portrayed in the parade are based on documented historical figures.
